Greenland-Norway Project Permian Source Rock Study 2017-2018

This project investigated the source rock potential of the Late Permian Ravnefjeld Formation. Information was collected from twenty-two sections through the formation spread over 315 km along the margin of the Permian Basin. The work has helped in the definition of the formation boundaries and permitted a re-evaluation of the sedimentology of the Late Permian succession. Analysis of 393 samples was carried out as part of the investigation of source rock properties and TOC, Rock Eval pyrolysis, U, Th and K data collected. The work provides information about lateral thickness variations and controls on source rock quality.
Completed: July 2018.
